You arrive in Marbella after a long flight and your body is still living in another time zone. You struggle to sleep at night, feel drowsy mid-afternoon and your legs feel swollen. That is jet lag, and while there is no magic cure, some habits shorten the adjustment a lot.

Why it happens

Our body clock regulates sleep, hunger and energy through the day. When we cross several time zones, that clock takes time to adjust. A common rule of thumb is around one day of adjustment per hour of time difference, although it varies a lot from person to person and with the direction of travel: flying east is usually harder.

On the plane

  • Set your watch to Marbella time when you take off and adapt meals and sleep to it.

  • Drink water often and go easy on alcohol and caffeine.

  • Get up and walk now and then, and move your ankles while seated to help circulation.

Your first day in Marbella

  • Get out into natural light, especially in the morning: it is the strongest signal to reset your body clock. A walk along the seafront is perfect.

  • If you need a nap, keep it short: 20 to 30 minutes, and before mid-afternoon.

  • Have a light dinner at local time and avoid bright screens just before bed.

  • Do some gentle exercise: walking or swimming helps you feel naturally tired.

Swollen legs after the flight

Long hours sitting encourage fluid retention in the legs and ankles. Walking, raising your legs for a while and drinking water all help. Gentle lymphatic drainage speeds up the relief.

An important note: if you notice pain and swelling in one leg only, warmth or redness after a long flight, see a doctor before having any massage.

The after-flight massage

For guests who want to enjoy their stay from day one, we designed an after-flight ritual: leg drainage, a back, neck and shoulder release, and a final hydration. We come to your villa, hotel or apartment whenever you arrive, so all you have to do afterwards is rest.

It does not reset your body clock, but it eases the physical fatigue of travel and helps you sleep better on the first night, which is usually the hardest.

In short

Morning daylight, local mealtimes from the start, hydration, gentle movement and short naps are your best tools against jet lag. If you want to start your stay feeling light, book our after-flight massage in Marbella for the day you arrive.
